Starting as young as five-years-old and go up to eighteen years of age and they have five levels of achievement. The five levels are Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, and Senior. When you think of girl scouts, everyone thinks of cookies. While their cookies are great, the cookie sales are just a small part of the equation. The overall goal is to teach them how to communicate, learn goal setting, decision making, money management, and business ethics. They camp and earn badges as well as community service projects.

The American Girl Scouts was started in 1912, over 100 years ago. Worldwide they are in 145 different countries and go by girl guides or girl scouts with over 10 million members. Our daughters need guidance, and this could be a great stepping stone for them. To find a troop near you check out the link below. I’d suggest you visit and meet your local council to see if they are right for your family. My two daughters are involved in two different troops and they love it! They enjoy the beach cleanup days, cooking classes, stem activities and even learn how to make floral arrangements. They love primitive camping, first aid, and even participated in the run for breast cancer. They are growing into lovely young ladies in the process and making great friends along the way. My oldest was shy, but she now looks forward to the meetings and campouts. It cost $25 to join for the year, plus the cost of a uniform. In today’s busy, fast-paced world we need to help our kids prepare for tomorrow and this is one of the ways we can invest in our young ladies. I bet you recognize these name: Taylor Swift, Celine Dion, Hilary Clinton, Queen Elizbeth II, Sally Ride, Venus Williams, Queen Latifah, Grace Kelly, Martha Stewart, Condoleezza Rice, Sandra Day O’Connor, Michelle Obama, Tammy Duckworth, and Lolo Jones? Not only are they all famous in their our perspective, but they were all girl scouts too! It doesn’t matter your background, it is open to all. Many women have passed through the girl scout program and are all strong woman from singers to actors, CEO’s to the Senate and World Leaders.

Currently, my girls are saving up to make a trip to Georgia to tour the original girl scout house and museum. They offer a variety of programs from tours to high tea, plus a lot of historic sites. The girls have been saving for almost two years now and doing different fundraisers to build their piggy. This summer they enjoyed building a robot, paddle boarding and throwing axes just to name a few. There’s something for every girl and everything is done according to age. My girls are now categorized as a Junior and a Cadet.
Did you know 80% of the women in US Senate and three former First Ladies were Girl Scouts as well as two Queens? Each rank is held for two years and they have several journeys to earn those fun patches. Also, if you want as a mom, you can volunteer your time, although it is not a requirement. Bridging ceremonies are a great family bonding time that turns into lasting memories. Maybe we will see you and your daughter on a Girl Scout Tour in the near future.
