FunVolution = Fun, Family and Food

Fun, Family and Food = FunVolution

In South Florida it is summer all year round – that is why it is called the Sunshine state – right?

Well as in lots of cultures, food forms an integral part of celebrations and just life in general. But what if we can take the fun factor and infuse it with the family and food factors then we have the makings of a cultural revolution.  “FunVolution” – Yes – I made it up. But that is all part of what is possible. There are no limits.

So how can we create fun things to do as a family around food and make a fabulous time out of it.  Well here are some tips:

  • Take it outdoors.  How many of you agree, that the same food, once it’s eaten in a different environment just tastes TEN times better? Don’t know why but it is true. It could be a back patio, back yard, in a park, on the beach.
  • Time of the Day or Night. With family, it is easier to do things during the day if you have little ones but hey switch it up.  I have had full moon parties on the beach right on Hollywood Beach. It is amazing to have your blankets and food and watch the huge full moon rise right out of the horizon. The little ones can be bundled up and fall asleep right there in the night air. It can be an amazing experience and great bonding time for family and friends.

  • Set a Theme. Veggie theme, fruit theme, chicken theme – and most importantly healthy but tasty. Anything that is easy to whip together and is portable and is finger food-friendly, make it happen. Have fun with it. A trip to the dollar store can give you great accents to make your gathering just so much more hip on a shoestring budget.
  • Keep it simple. Bring a dish – have all attendees – other families to bring a dish. Let the little ones do their part. They can bring any games they may want to play while at this event. So prep time is down to a minimum and most of the time can be had at the event itself and having FUN. Use all disposables which makes clean up a breeze.
  • Make the Memories. Start a free website that chronicles these momentous occasions and/or post on social media and share with friends and pass along the tradition so it becomes something that the family can look forward to. You don’t have to wait for a holiday to do this. We are given a weekend every week – USE IT!!!

Remember, time spent with the family is priceless. You are not only creating memories but also cultivating a culture in your kids. They will now begin to map out what they would like their family time to be like and creating their own family traditions as they grow up so that this “FunVolution” lives on for generations to come!
